Agrarian societies function as a decentralized network of diverse communities all working with similar intentions of sustaining our environment and traditional livelihoods. Highlighted here are a few projects in Thailand you should check out:
This project, founded by Jon Jondai and Peggy Reents, is one of the most famous sustainable communities in Thailand, famous for helping to spread the knowledge of earthen building and seed saving. They focus on teaching self reliance and host a variety of workshops. If you plan to visit Thailand we recommend you check out their website or Facebook before coming to see what events are upcoming.
Part self sufficiency, part art project, Sapien 3000, is the concept of Korkiat Tripattanasuwan. He is partnered with professional videographer and photographer, Satita Taratis who was recently featured by NOOR for her documentary work on the disappearing coasts of Ban Khun Samut Chin. Together they are documenting one year living in the rural village of Sanpatong. Korkiat's goal is to understand what it will take to see our species survive to the year 3000. This project stands out for its approach and its location which has a unique history as an artist collaboration called The Land Foundation. We recommend joining one of their many seminars which hosts some of the most profound speakers in Thailand. Follow them on Facebook to find out more.
Thammada means "ordinary", but this place is anything but that. Managed by Permaculture certified Pon Sparrow, it is host to a variety of activities with a free spirited approach to eco-village living. One of the most unique aspects of this place is the transformation it has gone through from a barren degraded field to thriving native forest and permaculture farm in only 8 years.
